Here Are Three Of The Best Hikes Here:
1. Papago Park
Well known among locals, Papago Park is a beautiful place to visit and an even more beautiful place to take a hike. It’s great for beginners or people who just want a slow meander of a hike, as it has four easy and smooth trails you can take. The sandstone buttes reaching up to the sky is reason enough to visit this area! The hikes aren’t too bad as they’re not too steep and remain pretty smooth, so you can do this hike with people of all ages. It’s also a great place to take the mountain bike if you’re so inclined.
Taking this hike so that you can time it with the sunset is a great idea, as the higher you get on the buttes you will get an incredible view of the sun setting over the valley.
2. Deem Hills West
If you have some time in the Phoenix area, check out the newly opened Deem Hills West. This park opened in 2010 and has since been a great asset to the area. This trail is a favorite as it provides a moderate hiking difficulty level but isn’t so well known that it’s swarming with people. A six mile trail length makes this hike easily accomplished and you can always turn around halfway through to avoid doing the full length. There are also four other trails of an easy level that are less than two miles, so it’s the perfect place for a quick hike. You can get a quiet and wonderful experience in Deem Hills West that culminate in beautiful views of mountainous hills, cacti, and sky.
3. South Mountain Park
Choose one or take both of these breathtaking trails at the amazing South Mountain Park!
Part of the largest municipal park in the country at over 16,000 acres, this quiet trail is where you can go to get gorgeous views of the Estrella Mountains as well as canyons. The trail originated in 1930, constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps. The trail is 4.5 miles and slighly challenging as there is some elevation, but this is the place that’s going to take your breath away with gorgeous mountain views and natural wonder.
This trail is a classic in the park and not just because of its name! This hike is a challenge at 9.2 miles and varying terrain that can get quite rocky. Bikers like it but hikers who are up for the challenge can be seen taking the Desert Classic on.
Incredible views of natural desert terrain that you can’t get anywhere else.
